Meet the Lead Characters
Beatrice Lovelace, early twenties, spinster, lost her faith in the justice system when the magistrate ruled her father's suspicious death as natural causes. She sets up her own detective agency to help others find the truth and to restore her family name. Valuing the truth more than her life, she is fearless in confronting her suspects, driving Thomas Beaumont up the wall with worry.
Thomas Beaumont, mid-twenties, third son, is adamant to help Beatrice with her detective agency because of their shared past. Only Beatrice does not remember because of an incident he feels responsible for. He made a silent vow to protect her from harm, whatever it takes. And did I mention he can't handle blood?
The Setting
Brighton 1824, a Sussex seaside town with close ties to France, is an upcoming seaside resort after the defeat of Napoleon. A place where the Ton descends after the London season ends, strolling on the Pier, playing bowling on The Level and enjoying the events in the Assembly Rooms. A place where smuggling is as rife as gossip and secrets.
While others enjoy the picturesque charm of a seaside town, Beatrice observes and follows each clue with fearless determination, no matter the cost.
